Just 12 hours after learning he was no longer in the team’s plans, Patriots star WR — following the best season of his career — is willing to restructure his contract, all for one more chance to wear New England’s uniform

Foxborough, Massachusetts — The message was delivered quickly, but Kayshon Boutte’s response was reportedly even faster than the Patriots’ front office expected.

Just 12 hours after learning that he may no longer be part of the team’s long-term plans, Boutte proactively presented a surprising contract proposal.

According to sources close to the situation, the 24-year-old wide receiver is willing to restructure the final year of his contract, accept a lower salary, and convert a significant portion of his guaranteed money into performance-based incentives — all simply to remain in New England.

This was not a request for a pay raise, nor was it a threat demanding a trade or an attempt to create public pressure.

It was a direct message from a player who just completed the best season of his career and still believes his story with the Patriots should not end yet.

Boutte just finished the 2025 season with 33 receptions, 551 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns — all career highs. More importantly, he averaged 16.7 yards per reception, ranking fifth in the entire NFL, becoming one of the most effective deep threats for the Patriots during their journey to Super Bowl LX.

Inside the organization, coaches have long valued his ability to create explosive plays, as well as his increasingly strong chemistry with quarterback Drake Maye.

However, football never stops moving forward.

After the Patriots acquired A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, the team’s wide receiver room became deeper than ever. Names such as DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, and Kyle Williams are also competing aggressively for starting roles and playing time.

That shift is reportedly what forced Boutte to face the reality that New England may be preparing to move forward without him as part of its long-term future.

Instead of responding with frustration or silence, Boutte answered with sacrifice.

Sources say he is willing to reduce his 2026 base salary and accept converting much of his remaining guaranteed money into incentives based on receptions, receiving yards, and team success.

The new structure would reportedly include bonuses if Boutte reaches certain target numbers, maintains a high yards-per-reception average, and helps the Patriots rank among the league’s most productive offenses.

Those details have transformed what began as a simple contract situation into something much more emotional for the New England fanbase.

“If the Patriots no longer see me as a priority option, I’m willing to take a step back, but I’m not ready to give up. Cut my salary, change my role, make me earn every dollar I receive. I just want one final opportunity in New England.”

That message reportedly changed the atmosphere inside the building almost immediately.

No final decision has been made, and the Patriots have not promised Boutte a significant role moving forward.

However, his willingness to sacrifice personal benefits has not gone unnoticed by coaches, teammates, and team leadership.

Head coach Mike Vrabel is trying to build a younger, deeper, and more competitive Patriots roster.

Boutte’s proposal now forces New England to decide whether his loyalty, chemistry with Maye, and potential for continued growth still hold enough value.

For the Patriots, the issue is no longer only about salary cap space.

The question is whether a player who just produced the best season of his career and is willing to sacrifice for the uniform still has enough value to contribute in the team’s new era.

Just 12 hours after hearing that the door could be closing, Kayshon Boutte still refused to quietly walk away.

He has placed his money, his pride, and his future on the line.

Now, New England must decide whether the next chapter in a Patriots uniform is still worth believing in.

Just 3 hours after the blockbuster signing of Greg Van Roten, beloved promising TE — Patriots’ versatile former standout quietly delivers an emotional farewell message to New England: “I will always be proud that I was once a part of the Patriots”
Foxborough, Massachusetts — Just hours after the New England Patriots completed the signing of veteran offensive lineman Greg Van Roten to strengthen their offensive depth, the organization once again experienced an emotional moment. While Patriots fans were still discussing the arrival of an experienced player and the impact he could bring to the 2026 roster, attention unexpectedly shifted toward a young player who had earned appreciation inside the New England locker room. It marked the moment when a promising tight end quietly closed the chapter of his journey with the Patriots and began searching for a new opportunity in his NFL career. The player being discussed was Mitch Van Vooren, who had been viewed as one of New England’s promising young talents because of his versatility, unique athletic ability, and relentless competitive spirit. The Patriots’ decision to waive Van Vooren following the signing of Greg Van Roten quickly created reactions throughout the fanbase. Many understood that the team needed to make roster adjustments to remain within the offseason roster limit while preparing for the final 53-man roster decisions. However, saying goodbye to a young player who had once carried expectations still left a feeling of disappointment. During his time in New England, Van Vooren was valued for his ability to adapt and his professionalism during every practice session. Unlike many traditional tight ends, he possessed a unique physical foundation after previously being an outstanding hurdler, bringing rare speed and movement ability to his position. Before entering the NFL, Van Vooren made his mark at St. Norbert College with an impressive 2024 season, recording 33 receptions, 510 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns, earning him a selection to the First-Team All-NACC. Although he did not receive many opportunities to showcase himself in official NFL games, he still earned respect from those who followed his development. After learning that he was no longer part of the Patriots’ current roster plans, Van Vooren was reportedly said to have sent an emotional message to the New England community. "THE LOVE, TRUST, AND SUPPORT THAT ALL OF YOU HAVE GIVEN ME WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE MOST UNFORGETTABLE PARTS OF MY CAREER. IF LIFE EVER BRINGS ME BACK TO New England ONE DAY, I WILL GIVE EVERYTHING I HAVE. NO MATTER WHERE I GO, I WILL ALWAYS BE PROUD TO HAVE BEEN PART OF THE Patriots." That message quickly received support from Patriots fans. Many supporters shared that although Van Vooren did not have the opportunity to become a star in Foxborough, his effort and professional attitude were qualities worth recognizing. From the Patriots’ perspective, the decision to move on from Van Vooren does not reflect a lack of belief in his potential, but rather the result of intense competition within the roster. The arrival of Greg Van Roten gives New England additional experience on the offensive line, while the current tight end group featuring Hunter Henry, Eli Raridon, and other young talents has gained an advantage in the roster competition. However, the story of Mitch Van Vooren remains a reminder that an NFL journey is not determined only by talent, but also by timing, opportunity, and the difficult decisions made by organizations. For Van Vooren, his chapter in New England has come to an end. But the appreciation from those who watched him compete in a Patriots uniform remains unchanged, along with the hope that one day he will have another opportunity to return to the NFL and continue proving his value. Because sometimes, the most memorable farewells do not come from the biggest superstars, but from players who leave their mark through dedication, competitive spirit, and the pride of wearing the uniform of one of the NFL’s most respected franchises.
