DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys arrived at mandatory minicamp expecting many of their biggest headlines to revolve around proven veterans.

Instead, one rookie has quietly become the most talked-about player on the practice field.
And with each passing day, the excitement surrounding him continues to grow.
The player is Caleb Downs.
Selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State standout entered Dallas with enormous expectations.
Few rookies arrive carrying a reputation as polished and NFL-ready as Downs.
Even fewer manage to exceed those expectations almost immediately.
Yet that is exactly what appears to be happening inside The Star.
Throughout mandatory minicamp, Downs has consistently been at the center of some of the defense's biggest plays.

According to observers attending practice sessions, there has hardly been a day where Downs has not found a way to impact the action.

The consistency has been remarkable.
Many first-year players flash talent occasionally.
Downs has flashed it almost every day.
