LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles Dodgers closed out their game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 2–6 loss, but a postgame moment between Tarik Skubal and Jake Bauers quickly became the most memorable image of the afternoon at Dodger Stadium.

Skubal was one of the Dodgers’ few bright spots as he battled through six innings and kept his team within striking distance.
The Los Angeles left hander allowed seven hits and two runs, only one of them earned, while recording seven strikeouts and two walks.
He threw 109 pitches, his highest total of the season, but still showed remarkable power in his final inning of work.
Skubal touched 99 mph twice and struck out all three Brewers hitters in the sixth inning, finishing his outing with a determined performance.
However, that effort was not enough to change the outcome for the Dodgers as the offense continued to struggle and the bullpen allowed Milwaukee to extend its lead.
Max Muncy and Andy Pages produced Los Angeles’ two runs with solo home runs, but the Dodgers were unable to put together a big enough rally.
The Brewers ultimately left Dodger Stadium with a 6–2 victory, while Skubal was charged with the loss despite allowing only one earned run.
After the game ended, there was plenty of disappointment on the Dodgers’ side after the team had just dropped an important game in the postseason race.

Skubal was seen standing quietly near the sideline for several minutes, looking down toward the field with a face that clearly showed his disappointment after a hard fought outing.
It was at that moment that an unexpected scene unfolded as Jake Bauers of the Brewers walked over toward the Dodgers pitcher.
Bauers, who had delivered an RBI single against Skubal in the fifth inning, gently patted his opponent on the shoulder before saying a few words to him.
The two players exchanged a brief conversation amid an atmosphere that still carried the weight of a fiercely competitive series between the Dodgers and Brewers.
The conversation ended with a hug before Bauers headed back toward the Milwaukee clubhouse and Skubal continued walking off the field.
The moment quickly created an image completely different from the tension that had been present throughout the game.
Instead of the battles on the mound and at the plate, fans witnessed two opponents showing respect for one another immediately after the result had been decided.
After the game, Skubal was portrayed in this scenario as offering a special thank you to Bauers for the unexpected gesture.
“I honestly did not expect to hear something like that from an opponent right after a game we badly wanted to win. Jake told me to keep my head up and that he respected how I competed. That meant a lot in that moment. We battle hard, but there is still respect between us.”
For Skubal, it did not make the loss any easier, but it reminded him that respect in baseball sometimes appears at the most difficult moments.
The Dodgers left the field with a disappointing loss, but the image of Skubal and Bauers embracing after their battle at Dodger Stadium helped erase some of the tension and created a moment that earned the respect of many across Los Angeles.
