Just 3 Hours After Learning He Was Cut to Make Room for Kyron Drones, Beloved QB Expresses His Disappointment - Sends a Subtle Farewell Message to Packers Nation

Posted Jul 7, 2026

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin — Just a few hours after learning that he was no longer part of the Green Bay Packers' plans in order to make room for rookie Kyron Drones, quarterback Kyle McCord spoke out with an emotional statement, revealing his deep disappointment over the unexpected turning point in his NFL career.

According to the information shared, McCord received notice that he had been released from the roster approximately three hours before publicly expressing his thoughts.

The young quarterback, who signed a futures contract with the Packers in January 2026 after being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the previous NFL Draft, said he gave everything he had during his time in Green Bay.

Although he was with the Packers for only a short period, McCord quickly earned the respect and admiration of many fans thanks to his professionalism, strong work ethic, and positive attitude throughout practices and team activities.

However, the Packers reportedly decided to prioritize the development of Kyron Drones, a quarterback known for his mobility and impressive arm strength.

The coaching staff believes Drones' skill set is a better fit for the organization's long term vision at the backup quarterback position and on the practice squad.

During what was described as an interview on NFL Insider, McCord did not hide his emotions while discussing the team's decision.

“I gave everything I had to the Packers, but they never truly recognized that effort. I will never come back, no matter how much money they offer me in the future. After everything I have been through, it is time for me to move forward and prove my value somewhere else.”

Those remarks quickly drew the attention of the NFL community and sparked widespread discussion across social media.

Some fans expressed disappointment that McCord was not given more opportunities to compete, while others believe the Packers are pursuing a roster building strategy that better reflects the modern direction of the league.

At this point, the Packers are believed to be reshaping the quarterback depth chart behind Jordan Love.

With Tyrod Taylor expected to serve as the experienced backup quarterback and Kyron Drones emerging as a long term developmental project, McCord's path to a roster spot appeared increasingly limited.

Even so, McCord's NFL journey is still only beginning. The former college quarterback has shown promising potential, strong decision making ability, and a highly competitive mindset.

Those qualities could help attract interest from other teams looking to add depth at the quarterback position.

If this truly marks the end of McCord's time in Green Bay, it will be a farewell that came much sooner than many expected.

Although he did not leave a significant impact on the field, he still earned the respect of a portion of Packers Nation through his professionalism and dedication during his time wearing the green and gold.

For McCord, the door in Green Bay may have closed, but the opportunity to continue writing his NFL story still lies ahead.
