Kellen Moore Cuts Rising Second-Year Player for Missing Every Offseason Program Session: “He Chose to Travel While the Entire Team Was Training”

Posted May 2, 2026

New Orleans, Louisiana – the New Orleans Saints have made a decisive and pointed move. Head Coach Kellen Moore confirmed the team has released a second-year linebacker — a player once viewed as a promising depth piece with upside in the defensive rotation.

The official reason: the player has not participated in a single offseason workout since Phase 1 began. While teammates — from core veterans to emerging contributors — have consistently shown up, he reportedly chose to spend that time traveling.

At today’s press conference, Moore delivered a firm and direct message:

“Although these workouts are voluntary, every player who wants to compete has been here putting in the work. While the rest of the team is building chemistry and preparing for the season, he chose to travel and hasn’t shown up at all. That matters.”

The player referenced is Jaylan Ford — a young linebacker entering his second season with expectations to take a step forward in development.

Moore emphasized that while offseason participation is not mandatory by rule, it remains a critical window for evaluating mindset, commitment, and readiness to compete at the highest level.

Ford, who saw limited action during his rookie season and was expected to compete for a larger role, now finds himself on the outside following his complete absence from the program.

Sources within the organization suggest that concerns had already surfaced regarding consistency and long-term development before the offseason even began.

His decision to miss all team activities ultimately reinforced those concerns.

The move sends a clear message from Moore and the Saints coaching staff: no position is guaranteed, and potential alone will not secure a roster spot.

Whether a player is a rookie or a developing contributor, accountability and dedication remain non-negotiable standards within the organization.

The Saints are currently in Phase 2 of the offseason program, with Organized Team Activities and mandatory minicamp set to begin soon.

Following this decision, linebacker depth is expected to become a focus through additional signings or internal competition.

Update: A representative for Jaylan Ford has not yet issued an official comment regarding the situation

12 Hours After Saints Sign Close Friend RB with 11,559 Career Yards and $52M Deal, Alvin Kamara Expresses Desire to Extend Contract for 4 More Seasons Before Retiring
Just 12 hours after the announcement that New Orleans Saints successfully signed Travis Etienne Jr., Alvin Kamara, the superstar NFL running back, shocked fans by expressing his desire to extend his contract and commit to the team until he retires. Etienne, one of the top running backs in the NFL with over 11,559 career yards and a newly signed $52 million contract, is expected to be a perfect addition to the Saints’ offense. Kamara, even though nearing the end of his career, still wants to extend his contract and continue his journey with the team to achieve bigger goals. “People might think I wouldn’t be happy, but honestly, I couldn’t be more thrilled. With Travis joining, we now have even more strength in the backfield. I just want to continue fighting for the team for the next 4 seasons because I truly believe in what we can achieve together.” This statement immediately went viral within the Saints fanbase, as fans had expected Kamara to be a long-term cornerstone for the team. With his incredible rushing and receiving abilities, Kamara is still regarded as one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL. Last season, he recorded over 1,100 yards and 7 touchdowns, showing consistent performance even as he moves into the later stages of his career. The arrival of Etienne will give Kamara additional support in the backfield, easing the workload and allowing both to thrive in the Saints' offensive system. With 4 more years on his contract, Kamara hopes to finish his career with a team that has the potential and ambition to go far. Kamara and Etienne are expected to form an unstoppable duo in the upcoming seasons, helping the Saints return to Super Bowl contention. Kamara's commitment and loyalty to the team add even more promise for the future, and the Saints are now poised for a powerful offensive combination, ready to chase a championship together.
