Green Bay, Wisconsin – The personnel changes earlier this week for the Green Bay Packers took an unexpected turn just hours later — not on the field, but off the field.
According to multiple local sources, former Packers wide receiver and special teams contributor Jakobie Keeney-James was arrested in downtown Green Bay on Tuesday evening on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Just 12 hours after receiving the news that he had been waived by the Packers to make room for tight end Luke Lachey, Keeney-James found himself in an unimaginable situation.
Witnesses described the young player as being emotionally distressed and visibly agitated in a crowded area near Green Bay. Police arrived at the scene around 9:20 p.m.
Though no serious injuries were reported, Jakobie Keeney-James was temporarily detained for processing and was later released after posting bail the following morning.
The incident has raised many questions about how the roster decision might have affected the mental state and behavior of players, especially as Keeney-James faces an uncertain future.
Primarily a special teams player who appeared in just one regular-season game in 2025, Keeney-James had been fighting for a roster spot as a kick returner and punt returner. The sudden cut left him feeling disappointed and anxious about the road ahead.
What makes this story noteworthy is not just the arrest, but also how Green Bay reacted. Instead of completely severing ties with Keeney-James after the incident, the organization proactively reached out to support the young player.
Head coach Matt LaFleur and team leaders issued a statement that the Packers would not shy away from their responsibility to a player who had once worn their uniform.
In an official statement, LaFleur emphasized: "This is a difficult time and we will not turn our backs on him. We brought him into the Packers, and with that comes the obligation to stand by him when things get tough. We are ready to support him in every way possible — legally and emotionally — because a mistake does not erase the value of a person. Once you are a part of the Packers, you will always be a part of our family."

While legal proceedings continue, the Packers have proven that they are not just a football team but a true family.
This not only highlights the unity within the organization but also reminds the entire NFL that the bond between players and teams does not end when the roster spot does.
With the team’s support, Keeney-James will have the opportunity to overcome this challenge and continue his career, even though his immediate future in Green Bay has come to an end.
